The Public Services Agency warns citizens about a new telephone fraud attempt in which unknown individuals are unlawfully using the institution’s name to obtain personal data.
Today, May 25, the PSA Customer Support Service was contacted by a citizen who reported a suspicious call. According to her, a woman falsely presented herself as an employee of the Public Services Agency and stated that the victim’s identity card had allegedly been cancelled.
Under the pretext of urgently issuing a new identity document, the caller persistently requested personal data.
We urge citizens to take note:
PSA DOES NOT request personal data, passwords, codes or other confidential information by telephone.
(!) Such data may be requested by the PSA only in one situation: when the citizen has independently called the PSA Customer Support Service (at 14 909) to schedule an appointment for services provided by the institution.
If you have been called by a person claiming to be a PSA employee and asking for personal data:
do not provide personal data;
immediately end the call;
call 112;
report the case on the platform: cybercrime.mai.gov.md
inform your relatives and close ones about this fraud method to help prevent further victims.
This method represents a social engineering scheme used to unlawfully obtain personal data and facilitate potential fraud.
The PSA has informed the law enforcement authorities about this situation and is cooperating with the competent authorities to investigate the case.
