7 June 2024, Chișinău – The Director of the Public Services Agency, Mircea Eșanu, participated in Moldova Digital Summit, the most important regional event dedicated to digital technologies and innovations in the IT sector. This year’s edition, held under the theme “Powering 100% Digital Tomorrow”, brought together national and international ICT experts (Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, the United States of America, Romania, Estonia, etc.), government officials, leaders of the business community in the field, donors and representatives of diplomatic missions.
Over three days, Moldova Digital Summit hosts sessions and discussions on the digital transformation process of the Republic of Moldova. In his presentation “Digital Transformation of the Public Services Agency”, PSA Director Mircea Eșanu noted that, over the past few years, the institution has made significant progress in the digitalisation process.
“The Public Services Agency is determined to advance the digitalisation of public services, focusing on citizens’ convenience. By 2025, we aim to have 50% of the services provided by the PSA already digitalised. We want people to no longer have to wait in endless queues, with counter service remaining only one of the options for accessing public services. Through the investments in technology and digital infrastructure that we have been consistently making over the past few years, our ultimate goal is for all PSA services to be accessible quickly, transparently and remotely, and for people’s interaction with state institutions to be easy. This is the main objective of the Public Services Agency for the coming years,” Mr Eșanu noted.
In this context, Mr Eșanu emphasised that despite the large number of data queries to the PSA registers (approximately 156 million queries over the past 15 months), the use of PSA digital services remains at a fairly low level. “There is an explanation for this. Of the 3.3 million citizens of the Republic of Moldova over the age of 18, only about 200 thousand hold a qualified electronic signature. And in order to request electronic services, citizens need an electronic signature,” the PSA Director emphasised.
During the summit, Mircea Eșanu announced that, starting in the first half of 2025, the PSA will move forward with the production of a new identity document for citizens of the Republic of Moldova – the electronic identity card.
“For the first time in the Republic of Moldova, the identity card will be usable not only as a document identifying the holder within the territory of the Republic of Moldova; a travel document for crossing the border (subject to an intergovernmental agreement), but also as an electronic identification document in the information systems of public institutions. Thus, citizens will be able to access various electronic public services and will be able to sign documents, applications or official declarations without having to visit the offices of public institutions. We are confident that over the next 2-3 years, the number of people holding a document with a qualified electronic signature will increase rapidly, easily reaching 1 million citizens. Digitalisation is a team sport, and the Public Services Agency is a reliable partner in this regard,” concluded the Director of the Public Services Agency, Mircea Eșanu.
