Have you brought a car from abroad and only have a copy of the registration certificate, or are the original documents missing? The Public Services Agency (PSA) has significantly simplified the registration rules. The new procedures have been in place since the end of June 2026.
What was it like before?
If an imported car did not have all the documents with complete technical specifications, you were required to physically take the vehicle to one of the three special identification offices (located only in the cities of Chișinău, Bălți and Cahul). A technical examination was carried out there, which, due to long queues, could take up to 3 days.
How does it work now (the “One-Stop Shop” principle)
You no longer need to travel to the three special offices across the country.
You go directly to the nearest PSA vehicle registration subdivision.
Everything is handled on the spot: the vehicle identification is carried out directly at the subdivision where you apply.
No bureaucracy for you: checks and document exchange are carried out internally, online, through the PSA electronic systems.
The file is processed digitally: our specialists send the documents electronically to the Vehicle Registration Directorate on the same day to verify the vehicle's history in the country of origin.
(!) Good to know: The new simplified rules also apply if you have lost or damaged the original vehicle documents issued abroad.
